Meerendal

About

Meerendal

The hills of Meerendal rise above the flat surrounding Durbanville landscape, with an almost endless variety of slopes, soil types and micro climates. This makes it possible to grow a wide range of classic cultivars with equal success.

Meerendal is a family run and owned vineyard with a history that started in 1714 when 60,000 vines were planted on the farm. For over 300 years, a tradition of producing quality wines has developed Meerendal into one of South Africa's flagship wine estates.

Meet Thys Smit, our passionate and dynamic winemaker. Thys holds a BSc in molecular biology and biotechnology from the University of Stellenbosch. He was nominated as a finalist for the 2019 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the year Award.

A Wine Estate with so much to discover.

With spectacular views over the vineyards and the Boland Mountains, our Luxury Boutique Hotel - a Cape Dutch homestead originally built as the Meerendal family home - is truly a countryside haven.

Meerendal has hosted sport and live events including ABSA Cape Epic, KFM and Liefde by die Dam music festivals. Our facilities are ideal for dinners, corporate events, conferencing, weddings and special celebrations with a selection of our award-winning wines.

Meerendal regards its responsibility towards social upliftment, the protection of our heritage and conservation initiatives very important. The Estate is WIETA Credited and supports various charities including SONGO and the BIGFEET Elephant Foundation.
